The first selection consisted of best 20 ideas that proceeded to the OIA Bootcamp. In the OIA Bootcamp participants presented their ideas to social entrepreneurs with environmental expertise, who challenged them with critical questions and provided suggestions for further improvement.
A team of international judges with ocean expertise chose 10 finalists and the winners of this years’ Award. With funding, media outreach and backing from experienced social entrepreneurs, the winning idea will then be supported to bring it further into fruition!
OceanLove is a global non-profit initiative which aims to spread love and positivity about the ocean in order to protect it. Founded by Dutch entrepreneur Ilco Van der Linde, a changemaker behind projects and networks for social change, OceanLove was launched in 2022 in Egypt on World Ocean Day.
Oceanlove aims to support people from all corners of the world who want to connect, collaborate and contribute to the conservation of our ocean and marine ecosystems. By sharing the beauty, the pleasure, and the opportunities the ocean can bring we open people’s hearts for the ocean, igniting their passion for protecting it. Because we protect what we love!
OceanLove is run by the Dutch non-profit foundation “Stichting Mandelahuisje” (the Mandela House Foundation). This foundation was founded by Ilco van der Linde and aims to fuel and promote Nelson Mandela’s Ubuntu philosophy, about respect, unity and interconnectedness. The board of the foundation controls budget, progress and the important non-profit principle:
"Nobody is making any money with this initiative, only the oceans gain benefits."
