Bring Back Plastic Waste (BBPW) Initiative

Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana (CaFGOAG)

It is observed that artisanal fishing crews go on fishing expeditions with bags of sachet water. Unfortunately, the empty sachets are dumped at sea, and there are over 12,000 canoes reported by the Fisheries Commission of Ghana.

BBPW Initiative is to be a local efforts that prioritize education and sensitization of fishing communities on the consequences of marine plastic pollution, motivate fishers to return the plastic waste, collect all plastic waste returned, and at the beach, weigh them and keep records, institute monthly beach clean-up, and partner other waste collection initiatives and recycling companies to buy the collected plastic waste. Additionally, the initiative will establish a local sanitation fund to support clean-up activities at the landing beaches.
