The Ocean Matter (TOM)
Kansualism Berk Kansuah
The Ocean is challenged by human activities on the land resulting in ecosystems lost, habitat destruction, decline in trade and economic growth, environmental pollution, ocean acidification, etc. These activities are posing threats to the planet and people
Since the ocean provides food, regulates the climate, produces over 50% of the oxygen we breathe, and supports trade and the world economy, it is required that the world use knowledge/ education to protect and conserve the ocean. Also, the UN, regional bodies, and states should enact legislation implementing the Ocean Matter (TOM) initiative, which aims to make every country's citizens ocean literate by 2030.
